The international ICOM Portugal conference ‘Museums: one object, many visions…’ took place on 22 February and gathers high-ranking ICOM members for exchange on current topics concerning cultural heritage. Amongst others, Prof. Dr. Hans-Martin Hinz, president of ICOM International, Prof. Dr. Susanne Popp, coordinator of the EMEE project and Chair of History Didactics at Augsburg University, Prof. Emma Nardi PhD, president of ICOM-CECA International and Prof. Uwe Brückner, Atelier Brückner GmbH, has given keynote speeches.
With this International Seminar, several questions has emerged: how can museum networks be a valid contribution to the multiple interpretations of an object and its value? How can objects be displayed in exhibitions, without dismissing their function and chronology? What roles can museum mediators play in engaging visitors as co-producers of knowledge? How can European projects develop synergies to enhance social participation in museums? How can museography appeal to visitors interaction? By finding answers to all these questions the attenancess have reflected the outcomes and future perspectives of the EMEE project.
As final part of the ICOM conference the exhibition ‘Europe through our objects’ has been opend at 18 o’clock. Besides the attenancess and lectures of the conference and the EMEE partners several personalities linked to the museums were present like David Vuillaume, President of Nemo – Network of European Museum and Paula Silva, Director, General Directorate of Cultural Heritage among several Museum Directors. More than 100 participantes attended to this opening.
